Help to create our Poppy display!

Can you help to create our EAST HUNSBURY REMEMBERS community displays for 2024?

We are looking for community members to help us please.
Can you make poppies for us? We use them to create wraps for trees in Grangewood Park, and to place outside of the Library, to form our outdoor display.

We need knitted/crochet poppies AND plastic bottle poppies.

KNITTERS AND CROCHETERS! Please see our poppy pattern – this gives you an idea, but you can also find other patterns on the internet. We love to have a variety of styles. Predominantly red please. Poppy-Patterns.pdf (thewi.org.uk)

Some people like to make peace poppies in white, or in purple to remember animals who also were part of the war effort – these are also accepted as remembrance poppies by the Royal British Legion, and we use these in our indoor displays.

CHILDREN AND FAMILIES AND YOUTH ORGANISATIONS: Can you help to make recycled bottle poppies for us? They are quite simple to make, but we need the paint to be waterproof please, as they go outside.

If you can make the poppies, our lovely seniors volunteers will attach the green stems for you.

The instructions for making poppies can be found on this link:

WHEN DO WE NEED THEM?

Please deliver your poppies to our parish office at Hunsbury Library – we are at the front of the building. We are open 9am – 4pm Mon to Fri, but you can also leave poppies for us over the weekend, on the reception desk.

If they be in a bin bag/carrier bag – that is ideal for us for storage.

You can pop us an email or ring the office to say you are dropping them off.

WE NEED YOUR POPPIES BY MONDAY 21st OCTOBER PLEASE – so that we can then start to prepare the displays. THANK YOU!

The displays will be erected inside the library, outside the library and in Grangewood park in the run up to our Remembrance Gathering on Sunday 10th November.
