Grants to local community organisations

East Hunsbury Parish Council has statutory powers to make funds available to local organisations for the overall benefit of East Hunsbury and its residents.

We will ensure that our grant making is:

  • Open
  • Transparent
  • Fair
  • Competitive
  • Supports priorities and issues faced by East Hunsbury

The document below sets out the guidelines for making a grant and formalises the application process to ensure access, openness and fairness to the groups and organisations we aim to support.

The Parish Council have been able to support the following initiatives during the 2022-23 financial year:

Friends of East Hunsbury Primary School - £1,000

"Since the Covid 19 pandemic we have seen several families within our school community struggle financially. Some of our children are coming to school hungry, some parents/carers are struggling to be able to provide basic essentials.

We have tried to provide essential food and toiletry items to a number of families by asking our staff members to donate items, however donations are now becoming more and more difficult to source.

Our worry is as families are being hit by the rise in cost of living more and more children are hungry!

We would like to aet up a pop-up monthly food bank to be able to support not only families within our school community but also the wider community of East Hunsbury."

Christmas Day Lunch for the Lonely - £300

This event is held at the Abbey Centre, Overslade Close NN4 0RZ and has been running for 35 years.

The objective is to give Elderly lonely people who have no one to be with on Christmas Day a nice day. Approx 50 'Guests' attend covering NN1 to NN5 postcodes.

The event is run entirely by volunteers from the local community and other areas. Transport is provided, free of charge, by the volunteers as all the preparations and entertainment.

Friends of Hunsbury Library - £250

The aims of the Friends Group are to support and enhance the library service in Hunsbury and to maintain contact with library management, community stakeholders and residents.

The funding is to facilitate the purchase of a dishwasher for the Library staff room to aid with hosting community events.

East Hunsbury Primary School - £675

To purchase the following signs to improve the parking situation around the school premises.

  • 2 x school buddies
  • 1 x A frame (Caution Think)
  • 1 x banner (Don't Park here)

Wootton Park School - £900

"To mitigate the busy parking situation in our main car park we would like to ask for some parking buddies. Our main objective is to keep our children safe and the parking buddies would help us to ensure we can do this. Wootton Park School only has one way into the school car park and one way out, making the traffic situation very busy and problematic. We were offered the use of a banner, but this does not suit the location of the car park. The parking buddies would be more useful and we can then ensure they are placed in highly visible/ particularly busy locations to keep the learners safe."
